Timely communication during the work day:
Keep phone fully charged and on your body with alerts.
Check hourly for updates if doing noisy activities.
Answer and respond to questions.
Provide a video with audio of work completed twice a day with the same view of a person able to turn 360 degrees so Dane can see everything.
Prepare a job plan for the following day.
Review videos, plan and bring all needed materials from the garage and on the way to work.
Submit the hours the day before.
Tools:
Keep all tools in the designated area of the truck.
Charge all batteries at the end of the day that are 50% or less in power and put fresh batteries in the tool.
Keep power tools out of the dirt/rain.
Any tools that can be returned to the truck/garage should be returned after use that day.
Any blades/gas that is used should be replaced.
Report any broken or stolen tools and buy new ones using the order history on Amazon the same day.
Switch out chains on chainsaw and fill with oil if the saw is dull. Tighten any loose saw.
Keep adequate Supplies in both trucks:
PVC pipe caps for 3", 4" 1" and 3/4" pipe.
Full can of pvc glue
Roll of paper towels
Four or more garbage bags
10 pairs of gloves.
Two cans of blue striping paint
Keep 10x 90s, Ts and Couplers 3/4"
Keep 3' of 3/4" PVC pipe for small repairs.
100' of lighting wire
20 lighting couplers.
Beginning a job:
Take before photos.
Learn where the gas, water and electrical shut-off is for anything in the garden.
Bring shovels and wheelbarrows needed to do the job.
Priorities on the job site:
Keep the sidewalk and street clean with sweeping and blowing. Have a broom and blower on site.
Turn off all water at the end of the day.
If we are working on the irrigation, turn off the main valve so the timer can't turn on a leaking pipe at night.
Pick up all garbage - including water bottles - daily.
Job Descriptions:
All dirt should be 4" below house siding, edging, sidewalks and driveways both before and after amending soil.
After bark is added it should be 2" below edging, sidewalks and driveway and house siding.
1.5"-2" of grapeseed compost should be spread evenly before rototilling well, looking at the color of the dirt after rototilling and adjusting soil to be even.
All drippers should be 1" away from the plant and two more drippers 6" away from the plant on trees and shrubs.
Where possible bring the 1/2" drip line to every plant.
Before pouring concrete or patios or doing gravel paths put a bit of lighting wire and irrigation hose.
Put brass hose ends level with the ground to start all half inch drip lines.
Up to 300 plants can be on one valve.
The timer should be set to turn on between 8:30am-10am but can start earlier so that the valves are not watering after sitting in the summer sun.
Put 2' of lighting wire to allow light fixtures to be moved later and put lighting in before bark.
All spotlights should not point at windows of house or in anyone's eyes on the street, driveway or paths.
Hammer all edging stakes fully down or cut the rest off with the grinder.
Throw away any dirty pipe and keep the irrigation box clean.
Twist all lighting wire couplers clockwise until they cannot be tightened any more and cannot be pulled off.
Always use the 10% coupon at American soils.
At the end of the job give clients:
Two of each of the bulbs used in lighting.
15 drippers and 1 of each type of fitting and 3' of pipe.
A map of the irrigation system e-mailed to them and put in the valve box.
Photos of anything buried underground, such as drain pipes.
At the end of the job:
Check all drippers.
Check timer.
Take after photos.
Sort through the best 10 before photos and after photos and e-mail them to Dane.
Review this list at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the job with the crew and mark X next to each thing not done at that time and check mark next to each thing done at that time.
Check the truck for glue etc.
Education:
Each employee should read the entire book once a year.
Before doing anything unusual watch youtube videos about it at night, prior to the job and during the job so you know what you are doing.
Study useful tools and suggest them by e-mail.
Study useful techniques and send them by e-mail for approval before using them.
Marketing:
Give any possible client interested in work a copy of the green landscape book and show them my e-mail address.
Keep three copies of the green landscape book in both trucks and one copy of the bigger book.
Reply on Nextdoor any time you see something.
Engagement with Dane:
Never interrupt.
Inform of any questions/request by client as soon as they are made by watsapp or "please tell Dane directly" to the client.
Take notes of anything said to remember.
Send job-plan before leaving or when getting home by 6pm.
